5 easy steps to be part of Lord's Pastime

[Published in: ISKCON Kolkata]

In our previous article, “The Ongoing divine PASTIMES of The Lord”, we shared somethings about the Lord's pastimes which are still going on. We tried to point out, how rare is this opportunity to be part of such pastimes. We have also seen few examples from the previous ages, how pride and ego blind or deludes a soul from understanding the authenticity and urgency of the movement. We should not be foolishly arrogant like Hiranakashipu, Hiranyakshya, Ravana, Kansa, Duryodhana, Chand Kazi, Jagai, Madhai and other demonic personalities who were present right in front of Lord but couldn’t understand that He was The Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Let us see few ways, how to be a part of Lord's Pastime.

Let us see few ways how to associate ourselves with the movement.

1: Attaining the qualification to become human beings.

We must understand Lord's movement is for human beings only. We are now born in the human form of life. Actual intelligence is to think, understand and self-evaluate if we are actually leading a life of a human or an animal.

It is said that
AhAra-nidrA-bhaya-maithunam cha
samAnam_etat_pashubhir_narANAm |
dharmo hi teShAm adhiko visheSho
dharmeNa hInAH pashubhiH samAnAH||

"Eating, sleeping, defending and mating, these acts of humans are similar to animals. Of them (humans), dharma (religious conduct) is the only special thing, without dharma humans are also animals"

So if we spend our life focusing only on eating, sleeping, defending and mating, we will be no better than animals.

We must inquire and try to understand the higher goal or purpose of a human life.

2: Understanding the Higher Goal of Human Life.

The higher goal of Human life is to re-establish our lost relationship with God.

Just as we all have relationships in the material world, similarly each of us also has a relationship with the Supreme Person, Krishna. Unlike the materialistic relationships which are temporary (because they end with the body), the relationship with Lord is eternal.

Our basic relationship with Krishna is that we are His parts and parcels. He is like the sun, the ocean, or fire; we are like the sun's rays, drops of the ocean or sparks of the fire. Problem is most people in this material world are trying to forget God completely.

Why? Because there are two major hindrances in the path of Krishna Consciousness - Maya Devi & Kali Yuga who bewilder the soul and pull them away from Krishna. They together play the dangerous role of illusionist and bewilders the soul. This bewilderment is so strong that we do not even realize our pitiable condition. Like Srila Prabhupada has said;

There are three kinds of miseries of life: adhyatmika, adibhautika, adi-daivika, Instead of understanding that we are being punished for sinful activities, under the spell of illusory energy we are thinking that this kicking, slapping and thrashing are accidental.

Srila Prabhupada had also said once

Tiny living entities crawling on a little planet and are thinking "I am great"

How to deal with these hindrances?

Step 1: Dealing with the fangs of Maya.

kṛṣṇa--sūrya-sama; māyā haya andhakāra
yāhāṅ kṛṣṇa, tāhāṅ nāhi māyāra adhikāra

Krishna is compared to sunshine, and Maya is compared to darkness. Wherever there is sunshine, there cannot be darkness. As soon as one takes to Krishna consciousness, the darkness of illusion (the influence of the external energy) will immediately vanish.

Step 2: Dealing with the ill effects of Kali Yuga.

harer-nama harer-nama harer-namaiva kevalam kalau nasty-eva nasty-eva nasty-eva gatir anyatha

Harinama, Harinama, Harinama is the only and foremost means to achieve emancipation. There is no other way, no other way, no other way in this age of Kali.

So the only way to make progress towards Krishna and at the same time remain safe from Maya and Kali Yuga is to chant Hari Naam and be Krishna Conscious.

3: Making smoother progress in spirituality.

There are four requirements for a healthy progress in Krishna Consciousness. These are the pillars of Krishna Consciousness. Even if one is broken, our devotion will collapse.

1. Real Compassion.

Pure water means you do not add anything to it, but take out all the contamination. Similarly, pure love means you don’t put anything external; rather you take out all the dirt from your heart, and then you will experience pure love of God. Compassion is an essential element of love. – H.H Radhanath Swami Maharaj

Only a soft heart can have the qualification to understand the pure love of God. Therefore it is mandatory to be compassionate towards every soul and have mercy on them. The grossest way of being heartless is to kill someone.

Therefore the first point is No Non-vegetarian Diet (meat, fish, egg) / no killing of animals for satisfying our tongue.

2. Austerity.

Austerity means putting aside our selfish ambitions for a higher purpose.
– H.H Radhanath Swami Maharaj

For all classes of men, be an athlete or a student or a spiritualist, too much of bodily comfort becomes a barrier to his progress. To willingly take discomfort is called tapasya or austerity. Thus, when a student studies while his mind wants to play or sleep, when an athlete exercises even though giving pain to his body or a spiritualist keeps a fast or chants for hours, all of them are doing austerity in their own field. To be austere one must have a strong mind. Weak mind fails to focus. People with a weak mind are being controlled by desires which disturb one's determination. Those who are under the influence of intoxicants have the weakest mind.

Therefore the second point is No Intoxication (cigarette, alcohol, drugs or caffeine products like tea, coffee etc).

3. Truthfulness.

A spiritualist should be truthful as it is considered to be an important virtue. If a person cheats others, he is cheating himself because it is Maya or illusory energy who bewilders his intelligence to take the path of cheating. The grossest way of cheating occurs when one gambles.

Hence No Gambling of any form.

4. Cleanliness.

sex could be a gift of God but when it becomes an obsession, it plunders all intelligence and people are driven to abominable acts to satisfy their lust. – H.H Radhanath Swami Maharaj

Needless to say, cleanliness is another very important aspect of spirituality. Normally all of us focus only on the external cleanliness. However, we shouldn't forget internal cleanliness also, which means to have a clean consciousness. The lowest consciousness is to have insurmountable desire to enjoy the bodily pleasures. Vedic Scripture allows a religious way of indulging into sexual life, by the bond of marriage, which must not be broken. Sex life outside the sacred vows of marriage is counted amongst, illicit relationship, according to the laws made by God. Animals like dogs and cats mate freely with no bondage because they are not given the higher human life of responsibility, but as humans, we must be restricted by the bond of sacred marriage.

Hence next point is No Illicit Sex.

If you want spiritual life, you have to pay the price. The price is the four regulative principles. – H.H. Bhakti Charu Swami Maharaj

Thus if anyone who follows the aforementioned rules of four regulative principles i.e. avoiding

(i) nonvegetarian diet,

(ii) intoxication,

(iii) gambling and

(iv) an illicit relationship,

can advance smoothly in the path of Krishna Consciousness.

4: Association of Lord's devotees

The four ways which are mentioned are actually the natural behavior of every soul. But at times it seems overwhelming to us because we haven't practiced it since countless lifetimes. The easiest way to revive our original consciousness is to be in the association of devotees.

Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu has repeatedly said:
'sādhu-saṅga', 'sādhu-saṅga'—sarva-śāstre kayalava-mātra sādhu-saṅge sarva-siddhi haya

Simply by associating with a pure devotee, one becomes wonderfully advanced in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. (CC Madhya 22.54)

Therefore the point is the association of Vaishnavas.

Getting an association of a Vaishnava was really difficult before 13 July 1966 (when  ISKCON was officially incorporated). However by the mercy of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Nityananda Prabhu and selfless service and sacrifice of Srila Prabhupada, today we can have devotee association in every corner of this globe. It is so easy now. All it requires is our serious endeavor to seek true knowledge.

5: Making a contribution to the movement.

Imagine a great bridge getting built, which will connect every town and village in this world. This bridge is Hari Naam Sankirtan movement of Lord. We contribute or don't contribute, Lord's name will reach every corner of the world because it is the desire of Supreme Personality of Godhead. So our contribution may not be significant for the movement but will definitely be a great contribution to our consciousness and our spiritual progress. Greatest contribution is by not behaving miserly but rather distributing to others what we were gifted by Acharyas and Krishna - Krishna Consciousness.

The greatest contribution will be to offer our gratefulness. Our gratefulness would be expressed as gratitude for Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Sri Nityananda Prabhu and the great souls who have sacrificed their lives so that we can get the bliss of this movement. Now it is our time to follow their footsteps and help other ignorant souls and upcoming generations to get the true blissful knowledge of life.

Summarizing 5 steps to be part of Lord's Pastime

1. Attaining the qualification to become human beings

We understand that Lord’s movement is for human beings only. So in order to be a part of His movement, we must first try to be human in real sense and not a sophisticated animal.

2. Understanding the Higher Goal of Human Life.

The higher goal of Human life is to re-establish our lost relationship with God.

3. Making smoother progress in spirituality.

H.H. Bhakti Charu Swami Maharaj: If you want a spiritual life, you have to pay the price. The price is the four regulative principles (avoiding: nonvegetarian diet,   intoxication,   gambling   and   an illicit relationship)

4. Association of Lord’s devotees.

Simply by associating with a pure devotee, one becomes wonderfully advanced in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Also staying in devotee association helps us to stay safe from the influence of Maya and Kaliyuga as discussed in "In the Middle of a Hunting Ground, with the Predators!!".

5. Making a contribution to the movement.

By helping other ignorant souls and upcoming generations to get the true blissful knowledge of life.

Let us pray to Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Sri Nityananda to allow us spiritual strength and intelligence to be connected and make an honest contribution to Their pastimes.

The Ongoing divine PASTIMES of The Lord

[Published in: ISKCON Kolkata]

Many times my wife and I discuss how blissful would have been the experience of those fortunate souls who were present during the various pastimes of the Lord. I am sure many people wished to be present during the period when Lord was carrying out His pastimes. Even we two used to repent many times, wishing, if we could be present then until we realized we are already present in an ongoing divine pastime of The Lord.

About some 500 years ago, this material world was extremely blessed and purified by the auspicious appearance of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Sri Nityananda Prabhu. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is non-different from The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna and Sri Nityananda is non-different from Lord Balaram.

Vrajendra-nandana jei, saci-suta hoilo sei, balarama hoilo nitai
Lord Krishna, who is the son of the King of Vraja, became the son of Saci (Lord Caitanya), and Balarama became Nitai.

During Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's pastimes, thousands and thousands of souls, as fallen as Jagai and Madhai were blessed by the Lord and delivered from this material world, with the potency of Hari Naam.

dina-hina jata chilo, hari-name uddharilo, tara sakshi jagai madhai
The holy name delivered all those souls who were lowly and wretched. The two sinners Jagai and Madhai are evidence of this.

Hari Naam or Hare Krishna Mahamantra has nothing to do with this material world. It is golokera prema-dhana, which means "The treasure of divine love in Goloka Vrindavana has descended as the congregational chanting of Lord Hari’s holy names."

Lord Caitanya also declares in Sri Caitanya-Bhagavata (Antya, 4.126):

ebe nama sankirtana tiksna khadga laiya
antara asura jivera pheliba katiya

yadi papi chadi dharma dura dese yaya
mora senapati-bhakta yaibe tathaya

Taking the sharp sword of the congregational chanting of the Holy Name, I will root out and destroy the demoniac mentality in the hearts of the conditioned souls. If some sinful people escape and giving up religious principles go to far off countries, then My commander in chief (Senapati Bhakta) will appear to chase them and distribute Krsna consciousness.

His commander in chief (Senapati Bhakta) is none other than His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who was deployed from Spiritual world to deliver souls across the globe.

So actually the divine pastimes of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu have not yet come to an end. We are in an extension period of His pastimes (The Golden Era) and we are so much fortunate to be present in this age.

Having said and understood our fortune, we must not forget that when Lord was physically present in front of Hiranakashipu, Hiranyakshya, Ravana, Kansa, Duryodhana, Chand Kazi, Jagai, Madhai and all other demonic personalities, none of them could understand that He was The Supreme Personality of Godhead.

It happens every time in every age, it is only a few fortunate souls who could make use of their intelligence could understand. While others blinded by their false ego and pride and using their own speculative intellect reject their only savior, the Supreme Lord.

Therefore how fortunate or how unfortunate we are, actually depends on us, our consciousness, our intelligence. Needless to say, we must be really intelligent and active not to miss the opportunity that has been graced upon us.

Understanding The Mission.

In Chaitanya Bhagvat Mahaprabhu himself said,

Prithivi te ache joto nagar adi gram,
sarvatra prachar hoibe mora naam;

Which means that the holy name will be preached in all the villages and towns of the world.

This is an intimate desire of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Thus the Krishna Conscious movement was established by The Supreme Lord Himself. And to fulfill His desire is the heart and soul of all the Vaishnava Acharyas in His lineage.

After Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, His teachings were widely propagated by the Shad Goswamis (Srila Rupa Goswami , Sanatana Goswami , Jiva Goswami , Raghunatha Bhatta Goswami , Gopala Bhatta Goswami & Raghunatha Dasa Goswami ). Then their disciples further took the responsibility of spreading the Holy Name. This auspicious mission of Krishna Consciousness was later given a form of Society by Srila Prabhupada and came to be known as the International Society of Krishna Consciousness, better known as ISKCON.

And we can see in this cold freezing darkness of Kaliyuga, how ISKCON has spread like a warm blanket across the entire globe. Disciples of Srila Prabhupada are now continuing the mission of spreading God Consciousness or Krishna Consciousness by spreading the Holy Names.

We have a great opportunity to associate ourselves with Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's movement that was started 500 years back by Lord Himself and is still going on. It is His pastime.

Let us pray that may we never be bewildered by the lifestyle of any bewildered souls and reject this rarest of rare opportunity to associate ourselves with Lord's Pastime.

Senior Classes

Level I.  Discover Your Self  (The Spiritual Scientist)
This course helps one to scientifically discover one's real identity and one's relationship with the Supreme. A material scientist knows only the atom; a spiritual scientist knows the soul, which is spiritual. This knowledge helps him find goal, mission and vision of life.
Level II. Positive Thinker (Spirit of Bhagavad Gita)
This course helps one with the Positive Spirit needed to tap the powerful message of Gita. It helps one to identify a divine guide in his life and to obtain the necessary qualification to become a cheerful positive thinker in life by knowing the sublime truths.

Level III. Self Manager  (Basics of Bhagavad Gita)
This course teaches not the art of managing men, machine, material, market and money, but managing ones own life by a holistic approach that combines knowledge of God's position and practical application of mantra meditation.

Level IV. Proactive Leader (Secret of Bhagavad Gita)
This course prepares one to become a Proactive Leader. All of us at some moments or the other, become victims to anger, lust and pride and feel sorry for our un-exemplary behaviour. The Proactive Leader is a thoughtful person who gives a positive spiritual response, by knowing what is illusion opposed to reality and resulant effects of all type of action.

Level V. Personality Development (Essence of Bhagavad  Gita)
Personality development is not a superficial change. We are generally covered over superficially by our acquired qualities like Experiences, Abilities, Memories, Learning, Habits and Beliefs etc. But the innate qualities of the soul like Peace, Love, Truth, Happiness, Humility, Tolerance are hidden. Whn we awaken the innate qualities of the soul, they come out in the 4 R's of our life - in the various Roles that we have to play, the different Routines that we go through, the Responsibilities we have to shoulder, and the various Relationships that we care for. The innate qualities are brought out when one's personality is truely developed.

Srimati Radharani - The Universal Mother

          [Published in: ISKCON Kolkata]

Krishna means “all-attractive”, someone who is supremely beautiful enough to attract everybody. However, Srimati Radharani is so great that She attracts Krishna.

          tapta-kanchana-gaurangi
          radhe vrindavaneshvari
          vrishabhanu-sute devi
          pranamami hari-priye

Srimati Radharani, I offer my respects to You whose bodily complexion is like molten gold. O Goddess, You are the queen of Vrindavana. You are the daughter of King Vrishabhanu, and are very dear to Lord Krishna.

          ***

29th August 2017 - is the appearance day of Srimati Radharani, the Queen of Vrindavan. On this auspicious day, for the pleasure of Guru and Krishna, let us try to understand about the dear most and top most devotee of Sri Krishna. Let us understand who is Srimati Radha Rani? What is her relation with Sri Krishna? What role does Srimati Radha Rani have in a Vaishnava's spiritual life?

Ever since we have heard about stories of Sri Sri Radha and Krishna, we form some understanding about these two personalities. In most of the cases our understandings are not based on Scriptures or Maha-Bhagavata devotee, rather these are based on TV Serials or mental speculations (self as well as other non-devotees).

Srila Prabhupada has mentioned in his commentaries that, "The two transcendentalists Radha and Krishna are a puzzle to materialists.". Understanding Krishna in itself is a great Herculean task for His devotees what to speak about Srimati Radharani, His internal potency. The subject matter of Srimati Radharani is extremely confidential. Hence Vedas also do not mention much about Srimati Radharani. That is why Lord Sri Krishna himself appeared as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to explain the vastness and greatness of Srimati Radharani.

          ***

          Who is Srimati Radharani?

Srimati Radharani and Sri Krishna are nondifferent from one another, they are one soul in two bodies, they have taken different forms to enjoy the mellows of pastimes. Just like fire and heat are one yet different. Both are inseparable from each other and compliment each other.

It is revealed in Vedic Scriptures, that once the Lord of Universes,  The Supreme Personality of Godhead - Sri Krishna, by whose mere desire everything happens, once had a desire to enjoy. As soon as this desire came to his mind, immediately from His left side appeared beautiful Radharani. Therefore, Radharani is non-different from Krishna, in the sense that, She is His internal Potency (or energy).

In the Vedanta-sutras (1.1.12) the Absolute Truth is described as anandamaya, always in the pleasure potency. When we want ananda, pleasure or happiness, we cannot have it alone. For ananda, there must be a companion. So because Krishna, the Absolute Truth, is anandamaya, He has expanded himself into many: eko bahu syam. This is the primary reason for our existence. We all are part and parcel of Krishna and are meant to give pleasure to Krishna.

The chief pleasure potency is Srimati Radharani.
It is said in Sri Caitanya - Caritamrita, Adi Lila, 4.96 - 97

          rādhā — pūrṇa-śakti, kṛṣṇa — pūrṇa-śaktimān
          dui vastu bheda nāi, śāstra-paramāṇa
Sri Radha is the full power, and Lord Krishna is the possessor of full power. The two are not different, as evidenced by the revealed scriptures.

mṛgamada, tāra gandha — yaiche aviccheda
agni, jvālāte — yaiche kabhu nāhi bheda
They are indeed the same, just as musk and its scent are inseparable, or as fire and its heat are nondifferent.

          rādhā-kṛṣṇa aiche sadā eka-i svarūpa
          līlā-rasa āsvādite dhare dui-rūpa
Thus Radha and Lord Krishna are one, yet They have taken two forms to enjoy the mellows of pastimes.

Just like Sri Krishna is the fountainhead of all forms of incarnations, in the same way, Srimati Radharani is the fountainhead of all forms of goddesses like - Laksmi, Rukmini, Satyabhama etc.

          ***

Relation between Srimati Radharani and Sri Krishna.

          avajananti mam mudha
          manusim tanum asritam
          param bhavam ajananto
          mama bhuta-mahesvaram

Fools deride Me when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature and My supreme dominion over all that be.
          [Bhagavad Gita - 9.11]

One must understand Sri Krishna is neither an ordinary human nor extraordinary human. Similarly, Srimati Radharani is neither some ordinary lady nor special lady of this material world with whom Sri Krishna was having His pastimes. Rather She is non-different from Krishna. Krishna expanded Himself into two so as to enjoy.

rādhā-kṛṣṇa eka ātmā, dui deha dhari'
          anyonye vilase rasa āsvādana kari'
Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are one and the same, but They have assumed two bodies. Thus They enjoy each other, tasting the mellows of love.
[Sri Caitanya - Caritamrita, Adi Lila, 4.56]

She is the pleasure-giving potency of the Lord (hladini-shakti), rendering service unto Him eternally in the material and spiritual realms.

          rādhikā hayena kṛṣṇera praṇaya-vikāra
          svarūpa-śakti — ‘hlādinī’ nāma yāṅhāra
Śrīmatī Rādhikā is the transformation of Kṛṣṇa’s love. She is His internal energy called hlādinī.
[Sri Caitanya - Caritamrita, Adi Lila, 4.59]

Every breath of Srimati Radharani is offered to Krishna's service, to give Him bliss.

Many people confuse this love of Srimati Radharani as mundane love (so called) we find around us. Radharani's loving affair with Krishna is not ordinary mundane loving affairs.

Every movie, songs describe love between actors and actresses. Even in real life, we find youngsters or married couples expressing their love to each other. "I love you" is the most commonly (mis)used words in our world. The emotion that we see around us and misunderstand it to be Love is actually Lust. In material world, true love between two living entities can never exist. Everything boils down to sense gratification, lust - kama - selfish desires. Two living entities (parents-children; husband-wife; boyfriend-girlfriend; pets-owner; employee-employer; master-servant) can pretend to show love only till the point he is getting satisfied. The moment one gets a reversal, immediately the relationship is threatened.

Love in the real sense only means an unalloyed loving relationship between Krishna and the living entities. True love is selfless love. True love means there is no self-interest, that one works only and only for the satisfaction of Lord Krishna. Since Radharani is Krishna's internal potency, Her business is to give pleasure to Krishna. From time immemorial She has been serving Krishna with devotion to please Him.

Srila Krishnadas Kaviraj Goswami has beautifully explained the difference between Lust and Love in Sri Caitanya - Caritamrita, Adi Lila, 4.165
          ātmendriya-prīti-vāñchā — tāre bali ‘kāma’
          kṛṣṇendriya-prīti-icchā dhare ‘prema’ nāma
The desire to gratify one’s own senses is kāma [lust], but the desire to please the senses of Lord Kṛṣṇa is prema [love].

          ***

The appearance of Srimati Radharani (on planet earth).

In Barsana, on a half-moon night in the month of Bhadra, King Vrishabhanu came to the Jamuna to bathe and found himself engulfed in a golden aura, the golden aura of pure love. It was emanating from a one-thousand-petalled lotus flower. He saw the most beautiful molten-gold-colored girl lying on the lotus and moving Her hands and legs. As the king had no child he was very happy to receive this girl. He brought Her to his palace and give Her to his wife Kirtida. Thus Srimati Radharani appeared in the earthly home of Her eternal parents, Kiritida Sundari and Maharaj Visabhanu.

However, they were also shocked because the girl was blind.

In the meantime when Lord Krishna’s mother, Yashoda, heard that her best friend Kirtida had a baby, she came to visit along with her husband and her son. Krishna crawled up to the cradle and pulled Himself up and looked in.

At that moment, Srimati Radharani’s eyes fluttered and opened wide and blossomed like lotuses. It seems that she did not want to see anything of this world other than Sri Krishna.

Role of Srimati Radharani in the life of a devotee.

The devotion in the heart of a devotee is a reflection of Srimati Radharani's devotion towards Krishna. She is the ideal maha-bhagvat. As the greatest devotee, She is also the most compassionate. She is unable to bear the suffering of the souls trapped in the material world.

Srimati Radharani is the guardian, the mentor and the benefactor of all aspiring devotees. When a soul starts to inquire about Krishna, Srimati Radharani is most pleased and takes charge of his devotional advancements. As one makes progress, one continues to invoke the mercy of Srimati Radharani and when She is pleased, Krishna is automatically pleased.

The chanting of Hare Krishna Maha Mantra, Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare is directly enacted from the spiritual platform, and thus this sound vibration surpasses all lower strata of consciousness-namely sensual, mental, and intellectual.
These three words, namely Hare, Krsna, and Rama, are transcendental seeds of the maha-mantra. The chanting is a spiritual call for the Lord and His internal energy, Hara (Srimati Radharani) , to give protection to the conditioned soul. This chanting is exactly like the genuine cry of a child for its mother. Mother Hara helps the devotee achieve the grace of the supreme Father, Hari, or Krsna, and the Lord reveals Himself to the devotee who chants this mantra sincerely. The supreme pleasure energy of the Lord (Srimati Radharani) helps us to reach the Lord.

          Radharani - reservoir of compassion.

There is an episode in the Padma Purana, Vrindavana Mahatmya.

Once a female jackal was drinking some water from the Radha kunda . Some children came and started beating the jackal with some sticks. The jackal hid in a nearby fox hole. The children built a fire in front of the hole to catch the jackal. Out of pain and fear, the jackal started crying. Lalita heard the cry of jackal and was shocked. How can someone in Vrindavan, land of Srimati Radharani be in distress.

She at once reached the spot and chased away the children. She then picked up the jackal and brought it in front of Srimati Radharani. Jackal was trembling with fear and pain. Seeing the pitiable condition of the jackal, Radharani was deeply hurt. Being a maha-bhagvat (pure devotee) and original mother of all living entities, She is extremely compassionate towards everyone. Srimati Radharani patted the jackal and blessed it. Immediately the jackal turned into a beautiful lady. She was then accepted by Srimati Radharani as a sakhi and blessed with eternal service.

The jackal represents the conditioned souls like us, children represent Maya - who torments us, Lalita represents Guru who guides us towards the lotus feet of Srimati Radharani.
